Two members of GBBN—Associate Principal, Angela Mazzi and Associate, Doug Richards—have been selected by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to join its prestigious College of Fellows. Joining a class of 116 new members nationwide, Angela and Doug were two of five members elevated in Ohio – and the only two in Cincinnati. Angela is also the first female Fellow from AIA Cincinnati.

According to AIA National, membership in its College of Fellows is reserved for “architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.” Doug was cited for his work as a mentor, leader, and advocate (particularly, his work founding AIA Cincinnati’s VISION leadership program). Angela was recognized for her work promoting health-generating design strategies and user-centered design processes in healthcare environments.

Both are excited for recognition. “I’m honored to be recognized by my fellow architects,” Doug says, “I’ve always enjoyed leading actions that allow other professionals to grow, build off each other, and give back to the communities we live in. It’s nice to have the value of this confirmed by others in the profession.”

“My entire career has been driven by a single passion – to explore how space makes people feel and use that knowledge to enhance the experience of being in that space,” Angela says, “it’s exciting to realize the body of my work was valued as making a difference.”

Congratulations, Angela and Doug! The honor is well-deserved.
