GBBN is delighted to announce that we expanded our parental leave benefits. We are now offering:

  • 12 weeks fully paid parental leave for birthing mothers
  • 6 weeks fully paid leave for non-birthing parents (includes adoption and foster)
  • Bereavement leave for pregnancy loss (fully paid), for employees, partners, surrogates

These benefits are available to all employees from the first day of employment. Parental leave can be taken at any time within the first 12-months of welcoming a new child. GBBN will also continue to offer flexible hours, reduced schedules, and remote/hybrid work arrangements to help new parents maintain a healthy work-life balance.

“For years, architecture has lagged behind other professions in terms of parental leave,” says GBBN Chief Operations Officer, Melanie Fairchild. “Typical policies offer 6-8 weeks of Short-Term Disability at a significantly reduced payrate of roughly 60%.”

“We know that is a pinch point that drives people—especially, women—out of the field of architecture, so this policy is an effort to support our employees while creating a more equitable practice.”

“This is part of our firm’s overarching stress on work-life balance,” adds Jessica Dole, Director of HR, Learning & Development. “All employees can take advantage of flextime, hybrid work schedules, and day-to-day flexibility to accommodate personal needs. GBBN’s success depends upon our amazing employees, so we want to ensure that we take care of them.”
