A new house helps Ronald McDonald Charities Dayton keep more families close as their children undergo medical treatment.
The new, all-electric, net-zero energy ready house triples the organization's capacity to serve families.

For the families of Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton (RMHC Dayton) this home away from home is a haven—a place to celebrate good days and birthdays or retreat after challenging days at the hospital.

Like the heart of any home, the kitchen is a place to gather, connect, and share some down-time over a favorite meal.
The placement of the kids play area allows it to feel like it's just for them while giving parents and caregivers peace of mind.

More than a place to sleep, RMHC Dayton supports family well-being. Finding opportunities to provide respite, access to nature, and joy are imperative.

The growth of pediatric health services in Dayton has increased the need for families to have local lodging where they can live comfortably for days, weeks, or months while their children undergo treatment at nearby hospitals. However, the constraints of RMHC Dayton’s former house severely limited the number of families they could serve.

Located between Dayton Children's Hospital and a residential neighborhood, the new house responds to both contexts in scale and form.

The new house increases guest rooms to 42, tripling the capacity of their former house. The building’s form, window and wall design, and highly efficient, renewable geothermal heating and cooling system minimize energy use. The anticipated energy savings are approximately 64% over similar buildings and 20% more than required by code.

The central stair connects public space, rooms, and respite areas located on each floor.

The project includes quality outdoor space to relax and get some fresh air after a day in the hospital. Keeping families close and providing spaces for both celebrations and setbacks, the new home for Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton is a larger, more energy-efficient haven for families.
