Digital Futures Tops Out

Members of GBBN’s team recently joined representatives from University of Cincinnati (UC), Terrex Development & Construction, and Messer Construction for a beam-signing and ‘topping out’ ceremony at UC’s Digital Futures.

A traditional milestone in the construction process, the event celebrated the placement of the highest structural beam on the new building.

“Beyond topping out, this is a significant milestone in University of Cincinnati achieving a new capability: Next Research,” UC President Neville Pinto said, “It’s powered by knowledge and expertise, built on partnerships (external and internal to the university), and focuses fiercely on problems that matter most to society.”

“Digital Futures is designed to be interdisciplinary,” according to GBBN Principal, Zach Zettler. “It empowers research and innovation by fostering creative collisions between academics and professionals across colleges and disciplines. From the ground floor café and research gallery, which will be a hub for researchers, students, and community members to shared resources and social spaces within its upper floors, the building is designed to bring people together to share experiences and ideas.”

Construction will continue on the exterior before turning to the interior. It is expected to be complete in the summer of 2022.

Contributing to Cincinnati’s Innovation District (and the Digital Futures Complex), GBBN is also designing Digital Futures’ immediate neighbor. Read about it here.
